Lunchtime Talk | From Small Beginnings... with Rex Cox

Event Dates
Event/Exhibition location
Royal Society Room, TMAG, 12:00pm

Half a century ago, a small group of maritime enthusiasts established an equally small part-time museum at St. George's Church (appropriately known as "The Mariner's Church") in Battery Point. Over time their numbers and the collection grew, a second home at Secheron House soon proved too small and the Maritime Museum of Tasmania came to be recognised internationally following its Royal opening at the Carnegie Building in March 2000.  This talk by Rex Cox covers the highs and lows of those 50 years, set against the background of an ever-changing shipping scene and huge changes in society at large.

Our Lunchtime Talks series is supported by Arts Tasmania.
